Job Title

TCAD Researcher / Software Developer

Role Summary

Develop numerical and high-performance software for semiconductor process and device simulation within the Calibre R&D team. Work on algorithms, solvers, HPC/GPU acceleration, and tooling that support advanced semiconductor manufacturing simulations.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, test, and optimize production-grade computational tools for high-throughput simulation workflows.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically 5+ years of relevant research or industry experience with demonstrated expertise in scientific computing and software development.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, and delivery of simulation and tooling components.

  • Design and implement numerical algorithms and PDE/linear solvers for process and device simulation.
  • Develop and optimize high-performance code for distributed systems and GPUs (CUDA).
  • Integrate AI/ML surrogate models to accelerate simulation workflows where appropriate.
  • Implement computational geometry, visualization, and large-dataset rendering for 3D scientific data.
  • Develop cross-platform GUIs and web interfaces for long-running simulation management and result inspection.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, regression testing, and library dependency management.
  • Estimate development tasks, deliver on schedule, and participate in code reviews and collaborative engineering.
  • Profile, troubleshoot, and optimize performance for high-throughput production runs.

Requirements

Key technical skills and attributes required for successful performance in the role.

  • Must-have: Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python; experience with CUDA or other GPU programming.
  • Experience with MPI or other distributed processing frameworks and HPC job schedulers (e.g., SLURM).
  • Practical knowledge of numerical methods (FEM/FD/FVM/BEM), solvers, computational geometry, or related algorithms.
  • Experience with software engineering best practices: Git-based workflows, CI/CD, automated regression testing, and release management.
  • Ability to write production-quality, well-documented code and to estimate and meet delivery commitments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and collaborative team communication.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with scientific visualization, Qt/PySide/QML, cloud execution environments, and applying AI/ML to scientific problems.

Education Requirements

PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering is preferred; alternatively MS plus 5+ years of relevant research or industry experience. Fields cited include Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering or closely related technical disciplines. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
