TCAD Researcher / Software Developer
SiemensJob Title
TCAD Researcher / Software Developer
Role Summary
Join the Calibre R&D team to develop high-throughput, high-fidelity semiconductor process and device simulation software. The role combines research in numerical methods and high-performance computing with hands-on software development to deliver production-ready EDA tools.
The position works on algorithms, solvers, and implementation (CPU/GPU, distributed) to accelerate semiconductor manufacturing and device studies at advanced technology nodes.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically candidates have several years of research or industry experience in numerical methods and scientific software development (rough guideline: ~5+ years of relevant experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include research and implementation of computational methods and building reliable, high-performance software for process and device simulation.
- Design, develop, and optimize numerical algorithms (FEM/FD/FVM/BEM, linear/PDE/eigen solvers, convex optimization).
- Implement and profile high-performance code for multi-threaded, distributed, and GPU-accelerated environments (MPI, CUDA).
- Integrate computational geometry and simulation components into product-quality software using C/C++ and Python.
- Apply AI/ML techniques where they accelerate numerical workflows and solver performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and industry partners to validate models and meet production throughput requirements.
- Estimate development tasks, deliver on schedule, and maintain code quality and documentation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes; listed concisely.
- Strong background in scientific computing and numerical algorithms for PDEs and linear systems.
- Proven experience with high-performance computing: distributed processing, MPI, GPU acceleration (CUDA).
- Proficiency in C and C++; practical experience with Python for tooling and prototyping.
- Experience developing production-grade software, debugging, profiling, and performance optimization.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to estimate and deliver software tasks reliably.
- Collaborative team mindset and good communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: semiconductor process or device physics knowledge, familiarity with AI/ML for scientific applications, exposure to Code Copilot or similar developer tools.
Education Requirements
PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering; or MS plus 5+ years of research/industry experience in related fields (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering or similar).
