Systems Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Internship on a systems engineering team focused on developing analog and digital ICs and system products from concept through production. The role supports IC design cycles, system-level activities, silicon evaluation, and cross-functional coordination with business units and customers.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current students. No specific years of professional experience required; role is intended for enrolled graduate students (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop analog and digital chips and system products from concept to mass production.
  • Execute high-speed IC design cycles and participate in system design activities.
  • Interface with business units and customers to help define product roadmaps and requirements.
  • Assess and negotiate IC development tradeoffs with design teams and customers.
  • Evaluate silicon systems (hardware and software) and associated documentation.
  • Gather user requirements, translate into functional specifications, and implement enhancements.
  • Produce documentation for development lifecycle steps.
  • Troubleshoot and debug system-related issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Understanding of system design, including writing IC design specifications, developing algorithms, and creating system reference models.
  • Proficiency in structured and/or object‑oriented programming (C, C++).
  • Experience with signal processing tools (MATLAB).

Nice-to-have:

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and the ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
  • Time management and ability to deliver projects on schedule.
  • Self‑starter who can take initiative and drive results in a fast-paced environment.

Education Requirements

Posting specifies candidates should be currently pursuing a graduate degree (MS/PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field. Cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher is listed as a minimum.
