Systems Engineer - Robotics
Allegro MicroSystemsJob Title
Systems Engineer - Robotics
Role Summary
The Systems Engineer - Robotics will develop and demonstrate robotics subsystems that integrate Allegro sensing, motor driver, and power products. The role sits within the Industrial Business Segment Corporate Strategy team and combines hands-on mechatronics engineering with technical marketing support.
Primary focus: design and build robotics demonstrations, execute hardware evaluation and benchmarking, and translate lab results into technical marketing collateral.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early-career. Acceptable experience: entry-level up to 5 years of professional experience in robotics, mechatronics, or electronics engineering.
Responsibilities
The role requires hands-on prototyping, lab evaluation, and cross-functional collaboration to produce demonstrable robotics systems and supporting technical content.
- Conceptualize, design, and build robotics demonstrations (e.g., humanoid joint actuators, dexterous hands) that showcase Allegro products.
- Integrate motor drivers, magnetic sensors, and power management ICs into functional robotic sub-systems.
- Perform hardware evaluation, calibration, and debugging of sensing and power products.
- Benchmark system-level performance (control loop latency, torque estimation, sensor accuracy) against robotics requirements.
- Translate complex lab data into clear technical marketing collateral and demonstration materials.
- Work closely with Marketing, Product Line teams, R&D, and external partners as a technical subject-matter expert.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and qualities for successful performance in this role.
- Hands-on mechatronics and hardware experience: circuit design fundamentals, component selection, PCB layout awareness, and electromechanical systems (sensors/actuators).
- Embedded development and scripting for testing and integration; experience with microcontrollers and proficiency in C and Python.
- Familiarity with robotic control systems, kinematics, motion planning, and benchmarking control-system performance.
- Strong debugging skills for hardware and system-level issues; experience with calibration and test workflows.
- Excellent written and verbal communication: able to distill technical results into compelling, customer-facing content.
- Collaborative team player with a creative problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn new tools and techniques.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with AI/ML-enabled systems, humanoid robotics, or advanced motion-planning toolchains.
- Prior experience building demos or prototypes specifically for technical marketing or customer engagements.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
