Role Summary

Summer internship supporting systems engineering for wireless systems at NXP's Irvine site. The intern will help define, analyze, document, and validate system-level requirements and support cross-functional technical coordination.

Work includes lab validation, test automation using Python, and collaboration with hardware, software, and validation teams to enable project execution and system quality.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship (student role). Typically for current undergraduate or master's students; no specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary tasks and contributions during the internship:

• Help define, analyze, document, and validate system-level requirements.
• Support technical coordination, reviews, testing, and follow-up on action items across teams.
• Develop Python-based test scripts to automate measurements, control test equipment, and collect data.
• Assist with laboratory validation, testing and characterization of UWB devices, antennas, and related wireless components.
• Prepare reports, specifications, and project records to maintain visibility and traceability.
• Contribute to structured problem solving, communication, and system quality activities.

Requirements

Core skills and attributes required or strongly desired for successful internship performance.

• Must-have: Basic programming experience in Python and interest in test automation, data analysis, or instrument control.
• Must-have: Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals, testing, problem solving, and technical documentation.
• Must-have: Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical ideas clearly in English (written and spoken).
• Desired: Hands-on lab experience from coursework, design projects, internships, or student competitions.
• Desired: Familiarity with engineering, design, verification, programming, or lab tools and a willingness to learn quickly.
• Desired: Exposure to RF, wireless systems, antennas, or laboratory test equipment.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline. Applicants must be returning to school or graduating at the conclusion of the internship; if graduating before July 2027, apply to entry-level full-time roles instead.
