Systems Design Engineer - Memory Enablement
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Systems Design Engineer - Memory Enablement
Role Summary
Responsible for post-silicon memory enablement of x86 SoC platforms. Work within the post-silicon validation team to develop and execute memory enablement, training/margining, and subsystem implementation across cross-functional engineering and vendor partners.
Deliver test plans, experiments, automation and reports to meet project milestones and product-quality targets.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 8+ years of experience in memory enablement or silicon validation for SoCs (preferred).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of memory subsystem enablement and execution of post-silicon experiments.
- Own memory subsystem implementation from product requirements through enablement.
- Design and execute experiments for memory training, margining, and boot/post-boot enablement.
- Maintain and update test plans, execution reports, and JIRA tickets.
- Develop automation and small test scripts to support enablement tasks.
- Debug complex memory, PHY, controller and HW/FW/BIOS interactions.
- Collaborate with memory leads, cross-functional engineering teams, and external vendors.
- Refine processes and contribute improvements to memory enablement methodologies.
Requirements
Required and preferred technical skills for successful execution of the role.
- Must-have: Proven experience in memory subsystem enablement, including DDR/LPDDR topologies, PHY and controller behavior, and conducting memory experiments during boot and post-boot.
- Must-have: Practical experience debugging HW/FW/BIOS interactions on processor-based systems; exposure to silicon validation stages and use-case validation.
- Must-have: Scripting or programming experience (Tcl, Perl, Python or similar) for test automation.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with memory analyzers and memory testing tools.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with x86 CPU/GPU subsystems and DDR5/LPDDR5 technologies.
- Nice-to-have: Prior work on SoC memory enablement for multi-core platforms and processor-based system designs.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
