Systems Design Engineer

Role Summary

Support platform validation by building and maintaining hardware test benches, reproducing and debugging system/firmware/software issues, and integrating automated tests into CI/CD workflows. Work with platform leads and chief engineers to validate fixes and ensure platform reliability.

Experience Level

Mid-level (typical 3–7 years experience).

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include setting up and maintaining test hardware, reproducing issues, and integrating automated tests.

  • Set up hardware for remote and local test execution and run user-defined workloads in the validation lab.
  • Troubleshoot and debug system, firmware, and software issues; reproduce failures and validate fixes.
  • Collect and provide logs, telemetry and statistics to support debugging.
  • Integrate and run automated tests within CI/CD environments (e.g., Jenkins, Ansible).
  • Maintain development systems and perform hardware/software fault detection and management.
  • Use and maintain test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, current probes, electronic loads, protocol analyzers).
  • Track work in a managed ticketing system and communicate status to stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience required for day-to-day tasks; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Proven test-bench setup experience and strong embedded-systems background.
  • Must-have: Ability to read and interpret board schematics.
  • Must-have: Programming and scripting experience in Python, bash, or C/C++ on Windows and Linux.
  • Must-have: Experience with PC/server hardware setup and administration, and basic networking skills.
  • Must-have: Hands-on hardware debugging skills including soldering and power-supply monitoring/sequencing.
  • Must-have: Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, current probes, electronic loads, and protocol analyzers.
  • Nice-to-have: Test automation experience (Perl, Tcl, Python, LabView) and CI tooling knowledge.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with low-speed protocols (I2C, Redfish, IPMI, SPI, I3C, SVI2/SVI3) and high-speed protocols (PCIe Gen5).
  • Nice-to-have: Proficiency in power electronics fundamentals, especially multiphase power converters.
