Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Systems Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead cross-functional engineering teams to deliver semi-custom SoC-based computing products (consoles, wearables, portables and similar platforms). Drive system-level specification, post-silicon bring-up, validation and coordinated delivery across hardware, firmware, software and external customers; accountable to the Product VP for execution and system readiness.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Preferred 10+ years of experience in system, silicon, firmware or platform engineering, including bring-up and validation.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on post-silicon execution, system test planning, cross-team coordination, and customer-facing validation activities.
- Lead post-silicon bring-up, validation and debug for semi-custom SoCs and platforms.
- Act as the customer-facing systems engineering contact and coordinate external co-validation.
- Define and own system specifications, platform BOMs, component selection and platform configurations.
- Create system test requirements and plans covering silicon IP, BIOS, firmware, drivers, IO subsystems, power/performance, thermal and OS certification.
- Set technical direction for test activities; drive issue triage, prioritization and root-cause resolution.
- Coordinate synchronized release sign-off across CPU, chipset, boards, OS, BIOS and drivers.
- Lead test execution and debug across internal teams and ensure clear allocation of responsibilities.
Requirements
Must-have technical capabilities and experience necessary to perform the role; preferred items listed separately.
- Proven leadership of cross-functional engineering teams and strong written/verbal communication skills.
- Hands-on experience with microprocessor and board bring-up, system debug and root-cause analysis.
- Experience with system validation, component compatibility and stress testing.
- Familiarity with test environments, defect tracking and revision control systems.
- Understanding of computer architecture and power/performance tradeoffs at platform level.
- Experience validating on Microsoft and Linux operating systems and related certification processes.
- Scripting or programming skills for test automation (Python, Ruby, or similar).
- Experience coordinating with performance, power and manufacturing teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Prior client PC and/or server system design and validation experience.
- Experience with virtualization (VMware, Ubuntu) and OS certification workflows.
- Familiarity with MS Office and MS Project for program tracking.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred; or equivalent practical experience.
