System Validation Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
System Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Validate high-speed SERDES IP (PCI Express, Ethernet) on prototype hardware using electrical and system-level testing. Work on the Hardware Prototyping team to verify signal integrity, ensure standards compliance, and support product certification.
Drive test automation and analysis tooling, collaborate with analog/digital designers and customers, and improve test methodology to reduce respins and accelerate time to market.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Level - Mid-Career). The posting does not state specific years; this role typically suits engineers with several years of hardware validation experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on lab validation, debugging, automation, and collaboration to ensure IP quality.
- Validate SERDES IP on prototype boards using oscilloscopes, BER testers, TDRs, spectrum and network analyzers.
- Execute and improve validation test plans; verify signal integrity and standards compliance.
- Debug complex analog and digital behaviour using schematics and PCB layouts; isolate root causes.
- Develop test automation frameworks and analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, or C).
- Support interoperability testing and product certification with silicon partners.
- Document results, refine test methodologies, and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience; items labelled "Nice-to-have" are beneficial but not mandatory.
- Must-have: Hands-on laboratory validation using oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers, BER testers, and TDR equipment.
- Must-have: Ability to read and use electrical schematics and PCB layouts for debug.
- Must-have: Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or C for test automation and analysis.
- Must-have: Proven systematic debugging and problem-solving methodology for mixed-signal systems.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with high-speed circuits and SERDES standards (PCIe, Ethernet) or RF theory (transmission lines, S-parameters).
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with FPGA development (Verilog/VHDL) and serial/board-level protocols (JTAG, I2C, SPI).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
