System Software Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Undergraduate internship on a system software team within Intel's Data Center Group. The role contributes to development and optimization of firmware, drivers, operating systems, middleware, and reference platforms for Intel platforms.

Experience Level

Entry-level — undergraduate intern / student.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include:

• Assist in design, development, and validation of system software across firmware, drivers, OS, and middleware.
• Debug system-level issues and optimize cross-stack software performance.
• Prototype proofs-of-concept and perform software modeling.
• Support creation of reference platforms for specific domains and market segments.
• Apply disciplined execution, testing, and documentation practices to deliver quality solutions.
• Explore 3D graphics and software–hardware full-stack debugging techniques.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

• Proficiency in C or C++.
• Familiarity with Linux or Windows operating systems.
• Basic understanding of computer architecture and software development processes.
• Interest in problem-solving and debugging software-related issues.
• Exposure to 3D graphics, GPGPU pipelines, or APIs such as OpenCL, Vulkan, or OpenGL.
• Effective English communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with scripting languages (Python).
• Familiarity with Linux OS architecture and device driver models.
• Interest in AI, game development, or computer graphics.
• Fast learner and adaptable to new technologies.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing an undergraduate (Bachelor-level) degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
