System Software Engineer - Trusted Firmware
NVIDIAJob Title
System Software Engineer - Trusted Firmware
Role Summary
Develop system software for NVIDIA's Tegra platform with a focus on ARM Trusted Firmware and low-level platform software. The role spans early boot, EL3 runtime services, power management, operating systems, hypervisors, and CPU architecture interactions.
Work on firmware bring-up, debugging, validation, and upstream collaboration to support features such as Confidential Compute and evolving ARM platform standards.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires 5+ years of system software development experience.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, validate, and maintain trusted firmware and related system software components; integrate AI-assisted workflows to accelerate engineering tasks.
- Design and develop system software for ARM Trusted Firmware stacks and early boot environments.
- Build and maintain agentic/AI-assisted workflows for code exploration, change planning, bring-up, debugging, test execution, and documentation.
- Create reusable tooling and connectors that let engineering assistants access source repositories, docs, issue trackers, build and test systems.
- Define and execute validation, review, and security checks for AI-assisted changes before integration.
- Develop and debug firmware, runtime services (EL3), and power-management interfaces.
- Work across OS and hypervisor boundaries to integrate platform features and ensure correct interactions.
- Participate in upstream community development for ARM technologies and platform specifications (e.g., PSCI, FFA, RMI).
- Perform architectural explorations: feasibility studies, safety evaluations, and CPU performance analysis.
Requirements
Core technical skills and practical experience required; listed "preferred" items indicate added value.
- Must-have: 5+ years of proven system software development experience.
- Must-have: Strong proficiency in C or C++ and capability to debug low-level software.
- Must-have: Experience developing or integrating firmware, embedded software, kernel-level, or other hardware-adjacent system software.
- Must-have: Deep understanding of OS fundamentals and computer architecture concepts such as MMU, cache coherency, TLBs, timers, and ISRs.
- Preferred: Familiarity with safety and security standards (ISO26262, CERT-C, MISRA-C).
- Preferred: Experience using AI-assisted development tools for firmware tasks (debugging, regression triage, log analysis, test generation, research).
- Preferred: Experience building AI agents or engineering assistants (retrieval-augmented generation, tool use/function calling, multi-step orchestration).
- Preferred: Experience working with ARM Trusted Firmware, Confidential Compute features, and contributing upstream to relevant specs and communities.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
