System Software Engineer, NPI Data Center Diagnostics
Role Summary
Develop system-level software and diagnostic tools to validate and stress next-generation GPUs and high-performance computing servers during product development and manufacturing. The role partners with architecture, hardware, and driver teams to turn hardware features into robust validation and diagnostic infrastructure.
Work focuses on OS-level systems software, performance/stress workloads, and low-level interaction with hardware and firmware.
Experience Level
Mid-level; typically requires 3+ years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include designing, implementing, and owning software used for chip validation, diagnostics, and productization.
- Collaborate with architecture, hardware, and driver teams across the product lifecycle.
- Design and implement software tools and infrastructure for new chip development, validation, and manufacturing diagnostics.
- Assess new hardware features and architect diagnostic tests using pre-beta CUDA and OpenGL extensions.
- Develop stress and validation workloads that exercise GPUs and server platforms.
- Debug system-level failures and optimize software interactions with hardware.
Requirements
Core technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Must-have: Strong C/C++ or Python programming skills.
- Solid foundation in systems software and OS fundamentals; ability to work close to hardware.
- Very strong problem solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to self-manage, demonstrate technical leadership, and communicate effectively across teams.
- Experience working on a large system software code base.
Nice-to-have:
- Background with PCIe, NVLink, or server interconnects (InfiniBand, Ethernet).
- Prior exposure to GPU or high-performance computing platforms.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience.
Base salary range: 124,000 USD - 195,500 USD (location and experience dependent).
