Job Title
System Level Test Engineer
Role Summary
Join Microsoft SCHIE/CSME to define and execute system-level test strategy and diagnostics for CPU, GPU and accelerator platforms across manufacturing and datacentre deployments. The role focuses on improving test stability, yield, test time, and correlation between lab, manufacturing, and field data.
Experience Level
Mid-level β typically requires 5+ years in product, test, or manufacturing engineering for advanced silicon platforms.
Responsibilities
Accountabilities include system-level test development, production support, and cross-domain failure analysis.
- Define and execute system-level test (SLT) strategy, requirements, tools and methodologies across hardware and software.
- Manage high-volume manufacturing SLT at OSATs and improve stability, test time, and yield.
- Integrate hardware, firmware, test content and automation for SLT platforms.
- Perform RMA checkout, system-level failure triage and root-cause analysis across silicon, hardware and software.
- Generate and use correlation, characterization, and performance data to optimize outgoing quality and power/performance.
- Develop and maintain software automation infrastructure for SLT and tester-to-system correlation.
- Characterize product power and performance from system to ATE and recommend coverage improvements.
- Manage multiple development activities across product groups and support datacentre-scale deployments.
Requirements
Required skills and experience are listed first; preferred skills follow.
-
Must-have: 5+ years in product/test/manufacturing engineering for advanced silicon (CPU, GPU, AI SoC) with proven system-level validation and system-scale testing experience.
- Hands-on experience with high-volume manufacturing, system-level test, and ATE-based functional testing.
- Experience executing production RMA processes, failure analysis, and dispositioning.
- Strong cross-domain root-cause analysis skills covering system bring-up, power, memory, I/O, interconnects and firmware interactions.
- Strong scripting or automation skills; proficiency in Python or C# required, familiarity with C/C++ or equivalent is expected.
- Experience correlating lab, manufacturing and in-field failures and using data analysis to drive improvements.
- Ability to manage test programs and coordinate across engineering and manufacturing partners.
- Must be able to pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check and meet export-control access requirements (citizenship/residency verification as required).
-
Nice-to-have: understanding of computer architecture (CPU, memory, PCIe, BIOS/UEFI, OS), advanced packaging and chiplet designs, semiconductor manufacturing and validation flow, hardware assembly/PC bring-up, and familiarity with yield and manufacturing metrics.
Education Requirements
