Role Summary

Internship supporting system integration and testing for next-generation wearable platforms and healthcare-related hardware. Work with cross-functional engineering teams on hardware characterization, embedded systems debugging, and PCB testing.

Primary site listed as Durham, NC; role involves hands-on lab and bench work alongside engineers.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Typically for current undergraduate or graduate students; no specific years of prior professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Contribute to hardware and system-level integration activities under supervision.

• Perform benchtop hardware characterization tests on wearable devices.
• Assist in PCB design verification, schematic capture, and layout testing.
• Support exploration and de-risking of new product features.
• Debug embedded designs, including communication buses and sensor interfaces.
• Collaborate with engineers to integrate hardware into system-level solutions.
• Prepare documentation and technical presentations summarizing test results.
• Travel as required (up to ~10%).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and laboratory experience for day-to-day tasks.

• Experience using basic electronics test equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies.
• Understanding of embedded systems concepts: microcontrollers and common communication protocols.
• Familiarity with analog circuit concepts (amplifiers, filters) and mixed-signal elements (ADCs).
• Basic PCB skills: schematic capture and layout experience.
• Electronics lab skills such as soldering and bench prototyping.
• Basic programming experience (C or Python) for instrumentation and debug.
• Willingness to work in a hands-on lab environment and collaborate across teams.
• May require export-licensing review for applicants who are not U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or protected individuals.
• Nice-to-have: prior exposure to power circuit design (switching converters) and sensor interfaces.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
