System Engineer (RF and SerDes)
Role Summary
Perform system-level architecture definition and analysis for semiconductor IC products that integrate high-speed SerDes and RF/mmW signal chains. Work with product, design and verification teams to translate customer and product requirements into technical specifications and test plans.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The role expects substantial prior experience (the posting specifies approximately 15 years of relevant experience).
Responsibilities
Define, analyze and validate system architectures and requirements for RF/mmW and SerDes-enabled IC products.
- Lead system-level requirements gathering, specification development, feasibility studies and trade-off analyses.
- Build system models for performance, jitter and risk assessment and to justify architecture choices.
- Specify SerDes and RF/mmW sub-system behavior to guide circuit designers and verification teams.
- Develop and implement system-level test and validation plans to ensure product functionality and performance.
- Act as technical interface to customers to capture needs and translate them into technical requirements.
- Support cross-functional teams and drive improvements in system engineering processes and methodologies.
- Contribute to IP generation through technical disclosures and publications.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list below.
- ~15 years' system engineering experience in embedded systems and semiconductor IC product development.
- Practical experience in mmW (V-band) wireless communication system design and performance analysis.
- Strong expertise in 10G SerDes specification: CTLE, VGA and DFE modeling, CDR, PLL and high-speed clock specifications, jitter budgeting and analysis.
- Experience with product specification and development in the analog/mixed-signal domain.
- Proficient in programming and modeling: C, C++, MATLAB, Python.
- Excellent written, oral and presentation skills; able to work as an individual contributor across distributed teams.
- Nice-to-have: prior use of AI productivity tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude) and a record of patents or technical publications.
Education Requirements
Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a related technical field.
