Job Title

System Debug Lead

Role Summary

Lead silicon debug strategy and execution for next-generation embedded SoCs in the Embedded Engineering Group. Own identification, triage, root-cause analysis, and resolution of complex silicon, platform, firmware, BIOS, and system-level issues to enable timely, high-quality product launches.

Work cross-functionally with architecture, design, validation, firmware, software, and product teams; provide technical leadership and improve debug methodologies and automation.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Preferably 15+ years of semiconductor industry experience with significant hands-on silicon, platform, firmware, or system debug.

Responsibilities

Accountable for end-to-end debug and program execution across product development and post-silicon phases.

  • Lead post-silicon bring-up, issue triage, root-cause analysis, and resolution for CPU, chipset, firmware, BIOS, and platform defects.
  • Develop and execute debug strategies for first-silicon bring-up, feature enablement, and validation readiness.
  • Define scalable debug methodologies, workflows, dashboards, and issue-tracking mechanisms.
  • Champion automation to improve debug productivity and reduce manual analysis.
  • Coordinate global cross-functional debug efforts to meet program milestones and product launch schedules.
  • Prioritize and drive closure of high-impact issues affecting functionality, performance, power, reliability, and customer readiness.
  • Provide technical leadership for customer escalations and field issues; communicate technical risks and mitigation plans to stakeholders.
  • Mentor engineers, contribute to hiring/onboarding, and foster operational rigor and data-driven decision making.

Requirements

Required technical skills, hands-on experience, and leadership necessary to perform the role.

  • 15+ years semiconductor industry experience with hands-on silicon, platform, firmware, or system debug preferred.
  • Proven experience in post-silicon bring-up, failure analysis, issue triage, and root-cause debugging of complex products.
  • Deep understanding of x86 SoC architecture, embedded systems, and hardware/software interactions.
  • Experience with industry-standard debug tools: JTAG, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, firmware tracing tools.
  • Experience debugging high-speed interfaces: PCIe, USB, Ethernet, SATA, DDR, and related subsystems.
  • Strong knowledge of BIOS, firmware, operating systems, drivers, and platform enablement flows.
  • Demonstrated leadership in driving cross-functional issue resolution and presenting technical findings to senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to define debug metrics, implement dashboards, and drive continuous improvement and preventive fixes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
