Synthesis Engineer, Sr Lead
Role Summary
Member of the Hardware Engineering team in the Engineering Group responsible for RTL-to-gate synthesis, power-aware implementation, timing closure, and formal verification for ASIC designs. Deliver reliable synthesis flows and automation to support product development.
Primary focus is on synthesis using Synopsys and Cadence toolchains, UPF/power-aware flows, timing constraints, and scripting to automate flows.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 4+ years of industry experience in hardware engineering or synthesis; degree-based alternatives exist per qualifications.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform RTL synthesis and implementation using Synopsys Design Compiler (DCG/DC_NXT/Fusion) and/or Cadence RC/Genus.
- Implement multi-voltage and power-aware synthesis, including UPF flows and low-power design techniques.
- Develop, write, and debug timing constraints; drive timing closure.
- Perform formal equivalence checks using Cadence LEC or Synopsys Formality.
- Create and maintain Perl/TCL scripts and makefile-based flows to automate synthesis and verification tasks.
- Collaborate with RTL, integration, and verification teams to resolve functional, timing, and power issues.
- Support productization and handoff activities to bring designs to commercialization.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Hands-on experience with Synopsys Design Compiler and/or Cadence Genus (DCG/DC_NXT/Fusion, RC/Genus).
- Experience with power-aware synthesis and UPF flows.
- Experience with formal equivalence tools (Cadence LEC or Synopsys Formality).
- Strong understanding of timing constraints and timing closure methodologies.
- Scripting experience in Perl and/or TCL; familiarity with makefile flows.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in RTL design or integration work.
- Prior exposure to multi-voltage and low-power SoC design at scale.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR Master's degree in the above fields with 2+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR PhD in the above fields with 1+ year of hardware engineering experience. Fields explicitly referenced include Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering and Electronics. Equivalent technical degrees or relevant experience are referenced by the role's qualification options.
