Summer 2027 Long Term Software Test Engineering Intern/Co-Op

Role Summary

Internship on AMD's software test engineering team focused on testing GPU (dGPU) and APU software across Linux and Windows platforms. The role supports the software test lifecycle: planning, executing, triaging defects, and reporting quality metrics.

Term options: 12 months (May 03, 2027 to April 21, 2028) or 16 months (May 03, 2027 to August 18, 2028). The role is full-time (37.5 hrs/week), onsite or hybrid in Markham, ON, Canada.

Experience Level

Entry-level intern/co-op. Intended for currently enrolled university students; no minimum professional experience required.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist in planning and executing software tests, reproducing and triaging defects, and contributing to process improvements and reporting.

  • Develop and execute automated and manual test plans and test cases covering functional, negative, regression, performance, reliability, usability, and customer/end-user testing.
  • Reproduce, troubleshoot, document, and drive software defects to closure in collaboration with development and project engineering teams.
  • Build test cases for new features, products (dGPU and APU), and operating systems (Linux and/or Windows).
  • Prioritize and manage multiple concurrent testing tasks and projects.
  • Collect, track, and report QA metrics to improve the software QA cycle.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to testing processes and tooling.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, availability, and work-location requirements for the internship.

  • Available to work full-time 37.5 hrs/week for a 12- or 16-month internship beginning May 03, 2027.
  • Work onsite or in a hybrid schedule in Markham, ON, Canada for the duration of the term.
  • Familiarity with software quality analysis processes and testing methodologies.
  • Hands-on interest and basic troubleshooting skills for PC hardware and software/platform configuration.
  • Basic programming or scripting ability (examples: Python, C++, VBA) and familiarity with test automation concepts (e.g., Selenium frameworks).
  • Exposure to development, triaging, or debugging on Linux and/or Windows environments.
  • Experience with databases and reporting tools for test results and metrics.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, work in a team, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with computer graphics, gaming technologies, display features (FreeSync/HDR), multimedia, VR/MR, or prior exposure to GPU/APU testing.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Canadian university bachelor's degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (bachelor's level study required for this position).
