Summer 2027 Long Term Diagnostics Design Engineering Intern / Co-Op

Role Summary

The Diagnostics Design Engineering intern will work on tests and suites that validate hardware blocks for AMD processors across presilicon verification and production. The role is on the Diagnostics team and combines software and hardware tasks: developing diagnostics tests, debugging hardware and software issues, and supporting ASIC bring-up and production test activities.

Entry-level internship for students. No specific years of prior professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, verifying, and supporting diagnostics used during processor qualification and production.

  • Design, implement, and verify diagnostics tests used in qualification and production test suites.
  • Debug and resolve hardware and software problems observed during testing.
  • Analyze fallout boards to identify improvements to test time, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Investigate and debug diagnostics source code using advanced C++ at a system level in Linux.
  • Assist in ASIC bring-up and support activities for data center/AI, gaming graphics, and embedded products.
  • Build and debug automation tools and scripts to support diagnostics and test workflows.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience expected for this internship (education requirements are listed separately below).

  • Proficiency in C++ and scripting languages.
  • Experience with software development and debugging in a Linux environment.
  • Familiarity with PC/system, GPU, and CPU hardware architectures.
  • Experience using source control systems (e.g., GIT, SVN).
  • Ability to debug both hardware and software issues and analyze test failure data.
  • Experience building automation tools or test scripts.
  • Nice to have: exposure to ASIC bring-up, diagnostics for processor qualification/production, or hardware validation.

Education Requirements

Must be currently enrolled in a Canada-based university Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. (AMD internships also recruit undergraduate and graduate students across different roles.)
