Staff Validation Engineer
RenesasJob Title
Staff Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Post-Silicon Validation team in the Performance Computing Power Division to validate analog, digital, mixed-signal, and power-management ICs. The role focuses on ensuring products meet electrical, functional, and performance specifications before production and supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) from first silicon through production release.
Experience Level
Senior-level; 6β8 years of relevant experience in power conversion, power management, semiconductor applications, or related system design.
Responsibilities
Execute and improve silicon validation activities across device, board, and system levels, collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and recommend product readiness.
- Develop and execute validation plans and test cases for complex products, platforms, and systems.
- Perform hands-on post-silicon validation, characterization, and debug of mixed-signal and power-management ICs.
- Design and build custom evaluation boards and supporting hardware for silicon characterization.
- Develop automated validation frameworks and measurement scripts (Python) for lab automation.
- Use laboratory instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, source meters, DMMs, waveform generators, logic analyzers, thermal equipment) for measurements and characterization.
- Analyze validation data, identify and document silicon and application issues, and track resolution with Design, Applications, Firmware, Product Engineering, and Quality teams.
- Contribute to test automation, validation infrastructure, and continuous improvement of lab processes to increase coverage and execution efficiency.
- Support NPI activities from first silicon through production release.
Requirements
Core technical skills and experience required to perform the role effectively.
Must-have
- Proven experience in post-silicon validation, characterization, and debug of mixed-signal and power-management ICs.
- Hands-on bench validation and debugging of complex hardware systems.
- Proficiency in Python for developing automated test solutions and laboratory automation scripts.
- Strong experience with laboratory instrumentation and measurement techniques.
- Experience with board-level analog and digital circuit design and PCB schematic creation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to independently investigate and resolve silicon and system-level issues.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) from first silicon to production release.
- Effective communication and ability to collaborate across global, cross-functional teams; cross-cultural awareness.
- Willingness to undertake occasional international travel.
Nice-to-have
- Experience developing automated validation frameworks and advanced laboratory automation.
- Experience with thermal characterization and system-level performance analysis.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field. The posting also specifies 6β8 years of relevant industry experience in power conversion, power management, semiconductor applications, or related system design.
