Job Title

Staff Systems SOC Design Engineer

Role Summary

Senior SoC design engineer responsible for specifying, designing, and verifying complex SoC subsystems and integrations. You will work within Arm's Solution Engineering division across teams in Sheffield, Manchester and Cambridge and collaborate with internal groups to deliver SoC products.

The role focuses on subsystem integration (PCIe, DDR/LPDDR/HBM, UCIe, Ethernet), RTL development, design-for-implementation support, and improving design methodology and quality metrics.

Experience Level

Senior (staff-level). The posting does not specify years of experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Integrate complex IP blocks such as CPU clusters, PCIe, DDR/LPDDR/HBM, UCIe and high-speed IO for SoCs.
  • Write micro-architecture specifications, implement RTL, debug and fix design issues.
  • Collaborate with verification to analyse test plans and root-cause design failures.
  • Support backend implementation: floorplanning, constraints, timing closure and implementation handover.
  • Improve and adopt design methodologies, quality standards, metrics and inspection processes.
  • Mentor and guide team members to ensure delivery and technical quality.
  • Assist project management with scheduling, planning and tracking technical activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Hands-on experience integrating subsystems: PCIe, DDR/LPDDR, HBM, UCIe and Ethernet.
  • RTL design experience using Verilog and/or SystemVerilog for complex SoC development.
  • Proficiency with static design checks (lint, CDC/RDC), synthesis, timing analysis, power management and clock/power domain crossing.
  • Exposure to full design lifecycle: concept, specification, implementation, power/performance analysis, optimisation, testing and documentation.
  • Ability to produce clear specifications and technical documentation for complex designs.
  • Scripting skills for automation and flows (Tcl, Perl, Python or similar).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Arm-based designs or Arm system architectures.
  • High-level programming (C/C++) or assembly language experience.
  • Experience with embedded operating systems, device drivers and microprocessor/embedded system architectures.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
