Job Title
Staff Synthesis & STA Engineer
Role Summary
Lead and own synthesis and static timing analysis (STA) for complex, high-performance ICs with large digital and analog interfaces. Guide implementation decisions, improve methodology, and lead small technical teams to achieve timing closure and signoff.
Work closely with RTL designers, physical design and verification teams to ensure multi-mode, multi-corner timing and signoff readiness.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 6β12 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include synthesis, timing closure, and STA flow ownership.
- Perform digital synthesis for high-performance digital blocks and manage DFT insertion.
- Develop, validate and debug timing constraints (multi-IP/subsystem/full-chip).
- Run RTL-to-netlist logical equivalence checks and debug failures.
- Set up, optimize and converge STA flows; perform multi-mode, multi-corner timing, noise and DRC signoff.
- Execute timing ECOs using tool-driven and manual techniques for timing closure.
- Automate flows and analyses using TCL/Perl/Python.
- Support floor-planning, placement, CTS, routing, extraction, physical verification, EM/IR and signoff checks.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Hands-on experience with digital synthesis, DFT insertion, and timing analysis.
- Strong understanding of liberty models, including power characterization.
- Knowledge of commands and constructs across synthesis, STA, LEC and physical design tools.
- Proven ability to root-cause timing violations and propose fixes across implementation stages.
- Experience with STA and signoff of complex high-speed SoC designs in advanced process nodes (16nm and below).
- Expertise in timing ECOs and closure techniques.
- Experience with leakage and dynamic power optimization during synthesis.
- Track record of working on 4+ successful tapeouts at lower geometries.
- Proficiency in scripting for automation (TCL, Perl, Python) on timing analysis tools.
- Good communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Hands-on experience with floor-planning, placement, CTS, routing, extraction, physical verification, EM/IR flows, and signoff checks.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. 6β12 years of relevant experience is indicated.
