Staff SSD Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop controller firmware for SSD and advanced memory systems. Work with cross-functional hardware and software teams to improve performance, resolve system-level issues, and bring storage products to market.

Contribute across the development lifecycle: design, implementation, debugging, bench testing, and root-cause analysis.

Experience Level

Senior (Staff-level). Typical background: 8+ years of industry experience or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Core duties include firmware development, debugging, and collaboration with hardware and system teams.

  • Design, develop, debug, and enhance firmware for memory controllers and SSD solutions.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve firmware, hardware, and system-level issues.
  • Perform bench testing, failure analysis, and root-cause investigations.
  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to isolate issues and drive product improvements.
  • Create and maintain firmware design documentation and technical specifications.
  • Contribute to performance optimization and bring new technologies to product release.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and capabilities are listed first; preferred skills follow.

  • Proven experience developing embedded firmware in C for resource-constrained systems.
  • Experience debugging firmware and performing fault analysis in hardware-software environments.
  • Knowledge of RTOS concepts, memory management, compilers, and low-level system architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform bench testing and root-cause analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a collaborative setting.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Experience in the storage industry (SSDs, enterprise storage systems).
  • Familiarity with PCIe, NVMe, NAND flash, and other non-volatile memory technologies.
  • Experience with C++, assembly language, scripting languages, and related development tools.
  • Experience with DDR interfaces and high-performance storage controller architectures.
  • Experience using AI-based tools for code generation, code analysis, or root-cause analysis.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience with 8+ years of industry experience.
