Staff Software Engineer - QA

Role Summary

Senior technical role in Arm's System Solutions software organization focused on validation and quality assurance for Arm Neoverse–based platforms. The role leads validation strategy, test development, silicon bring-up support and release readiness across firmware, system software and platform integration.

Salary range: £97,300 - £131,700 per year.

Experience Level

Senior level (Staff). Significant practical experience in system software, firmware validation, and platform-level quality engineering is expected.

Responsibilities

Lead validation and quality activities across the product lifecycle and provide technical leadership to a validation team.

  • Define and drive validation architectures, test strategies, and coverage models from component to full-system level.
  • Develop functional, regression, stress, stability, and performance tests for embedded Linux stacks and firmware.
  • Lead pre-silicon and post-silicon validation: simulation, emulation, FPGA prototyping, silicon bring-up and system debug.
  • Identify quality gaps and implement targeted test solutions across firmware, software, hardware and platform interactions.
  • Provide technical mentorship and promote standard methodologies in test design, automation, debugging and root-cause analysis.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Proven experience in quality assurance, firmware validation or system software engineering for platform/embedded products.
  • Deep knowledge of validation methodologies, test architecture and quality engineering practices for firmware and system software.
  • Strong programming and debugging skills in C/C++; scripting experience (Python, Shell, or Perl) for automation and tooling.
  • Solid understanding of embedded Linux stacks: services, device drivers, kernel interactions and platform integration.
  • Experience across pre-silicon and post-silicon validation workflows (simulation, emulation, FPGA, bring-up, system-level debug).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines and repository management (GitLab/GitHub).
  • Familiarity with firmware standards such as UEFI, ACPI, SMBIOS, Redfish, PLDM, MCTP, SPDM and secure boot.
  • Experience with Arm-based SoCs, server or infrastructure platforms.
  • Mentoring or line-management experience.
