Staff SoC RTL Designer — Job Description
Job Title
Staff SoC RTL Designer
Role Summary
Individual contributor on the hardware design team responsible for IP RTL design and full-chip SoC integration for FPGA products. Work with architects and micro-architecture teams to define specifications and implement high-quality RTL.
Focus areas include RTL coding (Verilog/SystemVerilog), integration quality checks (lint, CDC, RDC, SDC), design verification through assertions and checkers, and mentoring team members across time zones.
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires 8+ years of relevant industry experience driving logic design across multiple silicon projects.
Responsibilities
The role involves hands-on RTL design and SoC integration, improving design quality and design cycle efficiency, and collaborating with global teams.
- Design and implement RTL for key FPGA/SoC blocks using Verilog/SystemVerilog and best-in-class coding practices.
- Drive full-chip integration activities and execute quality checks (lint, CDC, RDC, SDC).
- Define micro-architecture with architects and translate specs into RTL and testable designs.
- Ensure design quality via assertions, checkers, and automation/scripting.
- Evaluate and select 3rd-party IP where appropriate and integrate into SoC designs.
- Mentor and teach best-known-methods to engineering teams; learn from peers about programmable FPGA fabrics.
- Collaborate with worldwide teams across sites and time zones; occasional travel as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and behaviors; plus items listed as desirable.
-
Must-have: Expertise in SoC integration and micro-architecture definition; proven experience selecting and integrating 3rd-party IP.
-
Must-have: Strong RTL coding skills in Verilog and SystemVerilog and experience applying coding standards and design methodologies.
-
Must-have: Demonstrated ability to ensure design quality using assertions, checkers, and scripting/automation.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with ARM processors, AXI/AMBA buses, Ethernet, PCIe, safety/security protocols, and debug architectures.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with FPGA usage models, programmable fabric considerations, and FPGA-specific constraints.
- Independent contributor and technical leader with strong problem-solving skills and experience collaborating across multiple sites/time zones.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master’s, or PhD in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
