Staff Silicon Validation Software Engineer

Role Summary

Senior software engineer on an R&D validation team in Mississauga building tools, automation, and data pipelines to support silicon bring-up, characterization, system-level debug, and validation. The role sits at the hardware–software boundary and collaborates with analog, systems, firmware, and software teams.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing tooling and automation to support post-silicon validation and debug. Key activities:

  • Develop and maintain software tools, automation frameworks, and scripts for silicon validation, characterization, and debug workflows.
  • Design and implement automated test flows, data processing pipelines, and reporting solutions.
  • Collaborate with design, systems, firmware, and software teams to diagnose and resolve complex silicon issues.
  • Analyze silicon behavior using lab measurements combined with software-driven data analysis.
  • Enable and optimize instrument control and data acquisition for validation workflows.
  • Debug problems across the hardware–software interface during bring-up and system validation.
  • Improve existing tools and frameworks for efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Document designs, develop and test software solutions for validation infrastructure; mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience. Where possible, items listed as "nice-to-have" are indicated.

  • 5+ years of experience in software development within silicon validation or related environments.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages for automation and data analysis.
  • Experience developing automation frameworks, validation tools, or scripting solutions.
  • Solid understanding of post-silicon validation, system bring-up, and hardware debug workflows.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across software and hardware domains.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with lab environments and instrumentation; experience mentoring junior engineers.

Education Requirements
