Staff SerDes Design Engineer
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Staff SerDes Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement advanced DSP algorithms and RTL for high-speed (200+ Gbps) SerDes transceivers, with a focus on power-efficient digital implementations. Work within a cross-functional ASIC team—architects, hardware designers, and verification—to deliver next-generation connectivity solutions for data center networking, wireless, and aerospace/defense markets.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Staff). Years of experience: not specified.
Responsibilities
Deliver DSP and RTL work for SerDes transceivers, collaborate across teams, and document interactions between algorithm and hardware.
- Collaborate with architects, hardware, and verification engineers to define and refine DSP features for next-generation SerDes.
- Implement DSP algorithms for equalization, filtering, and sequence detection.
- Develop RTL using front-end ASIC tools and flows (lint, synthesis, static timing analysis) to meet quality and timing goals.
- Simulate and model DSP algorithms to validate performance and robustness.
- Optimize digital implementations for power efficiency and performance.
- Produce comprehensive documentation describing DSP interactions with SerDes hardware and software components.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required or preferred for this role.
- Must-have: Strong digital design skills including clock-domain crossing and RTL (preferably SystemVerilog); experience with ASIC front-end tools and flows (lint, synthesis, STA).
- Must-have: Experience developing and implementing DSP algorithms for SerDes or other high-speed serial interfaces.
- Must-have: Experience in simulation and modeling of DSP algorithms and validating algorithmic performance.
- Must-have: Knowledge of power analysis and techniques to reduce digital power consumption.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Ethernet, PCIe, wireless communications, or sequence detection implementations.
- Nice-to-have: Prior work on 200+ Gbps SerDes or similar high-speed transceivers.
