Staff / Senior Staff Engineer, Analog Design (Power & Analog ICs)
RenesasJob Title
Staff / Senior Staff Engineer, Analog Design (Power & Analog ICs)
Role Summary
Senior individual-contributor responsible for architecture, circuit design, verification, and silicon execution of analog and power-management IP used in PMICs, converters, battery-management products, and mixed-signal devices. The role spans concept through production and requires cross-functional collaboration with layout, verification, product, test, reliability, and manufacturing teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The position expects approximately 12+ years of relevant experience in analog, mixed-signal, or power-management IC design.
Responsibilities
Accountable for technical ownership and delivery of complex analog/power blocks and converter subsystems through silicon and production.
- Define and own architecture for analog and power-management IP across products (PMICs, converters, battery-management, mixed-signal devices).
- Design key analog blocks: charge pumps, buck/boost converters, LDOs, references, oscillators, sensors, ADCs, op-amps, comparators, buffers, level shifters, and protection circuits.
- Translate chip-level requirements into block specifications, perform error budgeting, and execute system-level trade-off analysis (performance, area, power, cost, manufacturability).
- Architect and design switching converters and control loops; select and implement compensation and control strategies to ensure stability and robustness across PVT and fault conditions.
- Drive verification strategy across schematic, extracted, pre-layout, and post-layout simulations; optimize setups for convergence and accuracy.
- Lead silicon validation, characterization, debug, qualification, production readiness, and root-cause analysis for silicon issues.
- Collaborate with layout and floor-planning teams to address matching, noise, parasitics, isolation, current density, IR drop, and thermal concerns; ensure ESD/latch-up and reliability targets are met.
- Establish and drive analog design methodology, checklists, reusable IP practices, and lead technical reviews; mentor and guide junior/mid-level engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate impact.
- Approximately 12+ years of experience in analog, mixed-signal, or power-management IC design with demonstrated ownership from architecture through silicon and production.
- Deep, hands-on expertise in PMICs, switching regulators, LDOs, charge pumps, and converter subsystem design.
- Strong understanding of analog feedback loops, control-loop compensation, stability analysis, and converter-architecture trade-offs.
- Proven experience with references, op-amps, comparators, buffers, level shifters, oscillators, sensors, current sensing, and ADCs.
- Experience with industry-standard schematic design, simulation, extraction, and post-layout verification flows and tools; able to resolve simulator/model issues.
- Solid knowledge of analog layout effects, parasitics, matching, noise, reliability, ESD, and latch-up concerns.
- Track record of taking products through design, verification, tape-out, silicon validation, debug, qualification, and production release.
- Ability to lead technical decisions, run reviews, mentor engineers, and collaborate across global, multisite teams; strong written and verbal communication.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with battery-management systems, ultra-low-power design, SAR ADCs, or high-current power implementations.
- Prior work in multi-site or global engineering environments and cross-functional product teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
