Job Title

Staff / Senior Security Engineer, Firmware Test, SSD

Role Summary

Lead security validation and testing for SSD firmware across development and production phases. Work within the firmware test organization to define test strategies, execute white-box and grey-box security tests, automate regressions, and drive quality reporting.

Collaborate with firmware teams to isolate issues, perform root-cause analysis, and mentor junior engineers.

Experience Level

Senior / Staff level. The posting specifies 3–5 years of SSD firmware testing or development experience; security validation experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design and execution of security tests, automation, and collaboration with firmware teams.

  • Define and implement security test strategies for SSD firmware across product phases.
  • Design and execute grey-box and white-box tests for security features and protocols.
  • Perform deep root-cause analysis for security regressions, customer issues, and field escapes.
  • Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and integrate tests into regression suites.
  • Produce quality reports and metrics to guide decisions.
  • Collaborate in secure design reviews and assist with issue isolation and debugging.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on test methodologies.
  • Integrate AI-assisted tools responsibly to improve testing efficiency and quality.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Strong understanding of SSD architecture and PCIe / NVMe protocols.
  • Experience with NVMe command sets, firmware lifecycle, and update flows.
  • Proficiency in Python-based test automation and embedded systems development.
  • Hands-on experience in firmware validation and system-level debugging.
  • Baseline digital fluency and ability to use AI-enabled tools responsibly in the role.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in SSD firmware testing or development (security validation preferred).

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of TCG, NVMe security, SPDM, secure boot, cryptography, FIPS, or hardware Root of Trust architectures.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent; or equivalent practical experience.
