Staff/Senior Engineer, Firmware Test (SSD)

Role Summary

As a Staff/Senior Firmware Test Engineer in Micron's SSD group you will develop verification plans, test automation, and failure analysis to ensure SSD firmware performance and reliability for enterprise and automotive products. You will collaborate with firmware developers and cross-functional teams and may lead technical team members.

Experience Level

Senior level β€” typically 6–8 years of relevant experience in SSD firmware test development. Candidates with 2–3 years of strong Python programming and test development experience may be considered for more junior/entry roles.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on firmware verification, test automation, root-cause analysis, and cross-team communication.

  • Build comprehensive firmware verification plans for firmware features.
  • Develop white-/grey-box, known, and closed-system testing methods to verify and validate firmware.
  • Analyze failures from regressions and perform root-cause analysis requiring deep SSD domain expertise.
  • Manage test development, deployment, automation, and reporting activities.
  • Communicate challenges, solutions, and mitigation plans to cross-functional teams and management.
  • Participate in code reviews and guide the team to ensure coverage and correct architecture.
  • Establish working relationships with firmware engineers to improve code quality.
  • Lead technical team members as required.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical skills and behavioral qualities.

Must-have:

  • 6–8 years of experience in SSD firmware test development.
  • Substantial hands-on experience in SSD firmware testing and Python programming.
  • Deep understanding of storage protocols/specifications (PCIe, NVMe, NVMe-MI, OCP).
  • Familiarity with Agile development practices and GIT branch management.
  • Experience with automated build systems, continuous integration, and test automation.
  • Ability to work on complex tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring ability, strong problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with enterprise and automotive SSD products.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams and driving verification strategy.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science is specified in the source posting.
