Job Title
Staff RF Filter Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join the RF filter design team to develop BAW and SAW filtering components and front-end modules for mobile wireless applications. Work within a cross-functional RF devices and technologies team to deliver device designs, simulations, layouts, and production transfers.
The role emphasizes technical ownership of microwave-acoustic filter design, simulation-driven layout, and collaboration with process, test, and product teams to meet performance and manufacturability targets.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical guidance: advanced degree plus significant experience (see Education Requirements for details) or equivalent practical experience in RF filter/device design and characterization.
Responsibilities
Accountable for end-to-end filter component design and transfer to production.
- Design BAW and SAW filtering components (bandpass, ladder, notch, CRF, acoustic-assisted, etc.) for mobile RF applications.
- Perform feasibility studies and competitive technical analyses to define new products.
- Run acoustic and electromagnetic (EM) simulations and convert results into final device layouts for mask creation.
- Collaborate with process R&D and fabrication teams to account for process variations and capabilities.
- Work with characterization and test engineers to evaluate devices using RF/microwave test equipment and diagnose issues.
- Document designs, share methods, and support product transfer with test, application, and product engineering teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design flow, tools, and cycle time.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Proven experience in RF circuit design, layout, impedance matching, filter evaluation, RF characterization, and system-level measurements.
- Knowledge of circuit simulation, front-end radio architecture, and communication systems.
- Familiarity with micro-electronics technology and fabrication process considerations (practical knowledge preferred over academic detail).
- Extensive hands-on experience with tools such as HFSS, AWR, ADS, or equivalent EM/circuit simulation packages.
- Good communication and presentation skills; able to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Direct hands-on experience designing BAW or SAW devices.
- Experience with high-volume manufacturing, statistical analysis, and process-improvement methods (e.g., Six Sigma).
- Programming or scripting skills and proficiency with MATLAB or similar tools.
- General knowledge of wireless protocols and communication standards.
Education Requirements
Required: Master's degree plus 6+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of advanced education and experience. Preferred: PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field with at least 3 years of experience. Fields cited include Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines; equivalent practical experience is explicitly acceptable.
