Job Title

Staff RF/Electrical Design Engineer

Role Summary

The Staff RF/Electrical Design Engineer will lead electrical design and development of high-power RF amplifiers for defense communications, radar and electronic warfare applications within the Defense & Aerospace High-Power RF (HPRF) product team.

Work includes EM modeling, MMIC integration, PCB power and analog design, verification testing, and supporting products through feasibility, development, qualification and production stages.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Professional/Staff role; expects multiple years of relevant industry experience with RF/microwave design and high-power amplifier systems.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, simulation, integration, test, and lifecycle support of high-power RF assemblies and modules.

  • Build complex HFSS or equivalent EM models of RF/mmWave multi-stage high-gain, high-power solid-state amplifiers in channelized or enclosed cavities.
  • Integrate MMICs into housings and assemblies to implement high-power RF solutions.
  • Develop cascaded MMIC modules using 2.5D and 3D electromagnetic simulators.
  • Design PCB-level power management and analog circuitry for MMIC biasing and health monitoring.
  • Conduct product checkout, optimization, and design verification testing in the lab; perform DVT analysis and present results to stakeholders.
  • Support products through concept/feasibility, development, qualification, and production phases.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain expertise.

  • Experience designing Ku-band and Ka-band RF sub-assemblies.
  • Experience performing system budgeting, including RF link budgets, power budgets, and thermal dissipation budgeting.
  • At least 5 years' experience using 3D EM simulation tools such as HFSS and/or CST; familiarity with ADS, Microwave Office, or Cadence (Spectre) circuit simulators.
  • Deep RF/microwave engineering knowledge: s-parameters, material permittivity, impedance matching, cavity modeling and resonance management.
  • Broad knowledge of semiconductor RF/power packaging, materials, assembly processes, and defense electronic assemblies/sub-assemblies.
  • Familiarity with PCB and mechanical assembly construction; hands-on with schematic capture and PCB layout tools.
  • Hands-on lab experience with RF measurement equipment (network and spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power meters, oscilloscopes).
  • Ability to act as a design authority: produce comprehensive documentation, participate in design reviews, and drive quality via test data analysis.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for concise technical reporting and presentations.

Education Requirements

Required degree options (with minimum experience): BS in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years' experience; MS in Electrical Engineering (RF/Microwave focus) with 6+ years' experience; PhD in Electrical Engineering (RF/Microwave focus) with 3+ years' experience. Fields of study: Electrical Engineering with RF/microwave emphasis. No certifications specified.
