Staff R&D Engineer
Role Summary
Senior software engineer on the VCS Compiler team responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining C/C++ modules and subsystems used for RTL simulation. The role focuses on improving performance, scalability, and quality of simulation tools while collaborating with QA, application engineers, and customers to deliver production-ready features.
Experience Level
Senior — staff-level role. The posting specifies 5+ years of professional experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 3+ years with a Master’s degree.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and maintain software modules and subsystems in C/C++.
- Translate customer requirements into development objectives and features.
- Debug and resolve issues, perform bug verification, release testing, and beta support.
- Maintain and fix legacy codebases and ensure code quality and maintainability.
- Collaborate with engineers and QA to investigate and solve problems found during testing or customer support.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to development best practices and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience (see Education Requirements for degree/years):
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ with hands-on project development experience.
- Strong software debugging and problem-solving skills; ability to trace issues to root cause.
- Experience with Linux/Unix development environments.
- Experience working in large, complex codebases and producing readable, maintainable code.
- Good verbal and written English communication skills.
- Collaborative team player who participates in design discussions and code reviews.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with EDA IC design flows or RTL languages such as Verilog.
- Scripting skills in Python and/or Tcl.
Education Requirements
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience. No other certifications or degrees are specified.
