Job Title
Staff/Principal Engineer, NAND Technology Development (RDA)
Role Summary
Lead site-level inspection and RDA (root defect analysis) strategy for NAND Technology Development (TD) to detect, classify, and mitigate defects that impact device performance and yield. Work cross-functionally with Process Integration, Yield, Data Science, and Manufacturing to define inspection roadmaps, program health metrics, and corrective actions.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Qualifications indicate a senior engineer with significant experience: typical backgrounds include Bachelor’s with 7+ years, or Master’s/PhD with 5+ years of relevant semiconductor experience.
Responsibilities
The role directs RDA methodology, execution, and continuous improvement at site level. Key responsibilities include:
- Own site-level RDA strategy and annual inspection/analysis roadmap for NAND TD technology nodes.
- Lead analysis of experimental and production flows to detect, classify, and trend systematic and random defects.
- Establish, track, and report program health metrics (baseline health, detection rates, false positives, MTTR).
- Direct fast containment for defect excursions: trigger tool quarantines, define hold criteria, and lead 8D corrective actions.
- Architect inspection recipes and sampling strategies to optimize sensitivity, throughput, and cost of ownership.
- Correlate inspection signals with device performance and yield in partnership with Process Integration, Yield, and Data Science.
- Evaluate, qualify, and release next-generation optical and e-beam inspection capabilities; influence supplier roadmaps.
- Standardize and disseminate Best Known Methods (BKM) across global TD and manufacturing sites.
- Mentor and develop engineers within the RDA domain and drive continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience (concise):
- Minimum 3+ years hands-on RDA experience in semiconductor manufacturing or equipment engineering.
- Proven expertise in defect inspection, process monitoring, root cause analysis, and yield learning.
- Experience defining and tracking program health metrics, managing tool quarantines, and leading corrective actions.
- Technical ability to develop inspection recipes, sampling strategies, and optimize inspection throughput and sensitivity.
- Familiarity with optical and e-beam inspection equipment evaluation and qualification.
- Demonstrated collaboration with process integration, yield, data science, suppliers, and global manufacturing teams.
- Leadership experience: mentoring, coaching, and developing succession plans within an engineering domain.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years relevant semiconductor experience, or Master’s/PhD with 5+ years relevant semiconductor experience.
