Job Title
Staff Power IC Design Engineer
Role Summary
The Staff Power IC Design Engineer develops transistor-level power management circuit blocks for integrated circuits, owning designs from schematic through silicon validation. The role contributes technical leadership to multi-team products and supports process and technology development for next-generation power solutions.
Experience Level
Senior. Typical background: MSEE with 7+ years power IC design experience, or PhD with 5+ years (BSEE with equivalent depth considered); demonstrated tape-out and silicon validation experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver high-performance power management circuits and support silicon bring-up and cross-team integration.
- Design transistor-level power circuits: DC-DC converters (buck, boost, buck-boost), LDOs, charge pumps, gate drivers, power stages, and protection circuits.
- Execute schematic capture, simulation, layout oversight, post-layout verification, and parasitic-aware simulation.
- Optimize transient response, loop bandwidth, load regulation, and power-stage performance across process corners.
- Perform design centering, Monte Carlo/yield analysis, and reliability assessments (electromigration, hot-carrier, SOA).
- Support silicon bring-up, debug, and correlation of measured results with simulation.
- Collaborate on architecture trade-offs across efficiency, area, EMI, reliability, and cost; participate in design reviews.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and tools required for the role.
- Strong transistor-level design skills for high-performance power management circuits and experience delivering designs to production.
- Deep understanding of BCD, HV-CMOS, and power FET process technologies, including high-voltage device physics and safe operating area constraints.
- Proficiency with Cadence IC design tools (Virtuoso, Spectre/APS) and power-stage simulation environments.
- Experience with control loop design, compensation techniques, and stability analysis for switching and linear regulators.
- Demonstrated ability to correlate simulation with bench measurements and perform silicon validation.
- Excellent presentation, technical writing, and communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with magnetics modeling and inductor/transformer co-design, system-level power delivery network analysis.
- Knowledge of thermal analysis, package-level power dissipation modeling, and EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
- Interest or experience applying AI/ML techniques to design workflows.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and ability to work in collaborative teams.
Education Requirements
Preferred: MSEE (with 7+ years relevant experience) or PhD (with 5+ years). BSEE considered if accompanied by equivalent depth of experience. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable where stated.
