Job Title
Staff Power Amplifier Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and develop high-efficiency, high-linearity cellular power amplifiers (PAs) and RF front-end modules for 5G NR and 6G smartphone applications. Responsibilities span PA architecture, die integration into multi-chip modules, simulation, measurement, and transfer to high-volume manufacturing.
Work as part of a cross-functional RF engineering team and coordinate with filter, packaging, and systems engineers; present technical results to internal and external stakeholders.
Experience Level
Senior / Staff-level (professional). Role expects an experienced individual contributor with a demonstrated track record in RF/PA design and product development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include PA design, integration, simulation, measurement, and cross-team coordination.
- Design and develop PAs using GaAs HBT technologies targeting high linearity, wide modulation bandwidth, high power, and high efficiency for 5G/6G handsets.
- Define PA architecture and lead integration of PA dies into multi-chip modules (MCM), optimizing size, cost, and thermal performance.
- Perform 3D electromagnetic (EM) simulations (HFSS) and circuit-level simulations (ADS) to align models with measured performance.
- Collaborate with SAW/BAW filter, packaging, and systems engineers to optimize module-level performance.
- Plan and execute RF measurements and characterization; analyze results and iterate designs.
- Document design work and present technical results to internal teams and external customers.
- Support transfer of designs to high-volume manufacturing.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required or preferred for success in the role.
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of RF fundamentals (S-parameters, impedance matching, stability, linearity).
-
Must-have: Hands-on RF circuit design and simulation experience with ADS, HFSS, and Cadence tools.
-
Must-have: Solid background in RF measurements and device/module characterization.
-
Must-have: Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and strong technical communication and presentation skills.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with GaAs HBT PA design, multi-chip module (MCM) integration, and SAW/BAW filters.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience supporting designs through high-volume manufacturing.
Education Requirements
Minimum of an MSEE (Master of Science in Electrical Engineering) with at least 3 years of industry experience, or a Ph.D.
