Staff Platform Systems Engineer
Role Summary
The Staff Platform Systems Engineer defines system- and platform-level requirements for next-generation embedded wireless products. This role analyzes customer use cases and technical trade-offs, performs feasibility studies, and translates ambiguous market needs into actionable product definitions.
Works on the Hardware Platform team and partners with Product Management, R&D, customers, and field teams to ensure product architectures are technically sound and commercially viable.
Experience Level
Senior β minimum 10 years of experience in embedded systems, wireless products, systems engineering, or technical product definition.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership during product planning and cross-functional execution.
- Gather and synthesize market trends, customer requirements, and field feedback.
- Translate customer use cases into product, system, and architectural requirements.
- Drive technical feasibility studies and identify technical risks, assumptions, and mitigations.
- Lead cross-functional technical investigations and present findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Build alignment across engineering, product, and business teams to drive decisions.
- Contribute to product requirement documents, architecture proposals, and competitive analyses.
- Collaborate with R&D to ensure proposed solutions are feasible and scalable.
- Present technical recommendations to internal leadership and strategic customers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and behaviors followed by optional strengths that will be considered a plus.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in embedded systems, wireless products, systems engineering, or technical product definition.
- Strong embedded software development or embedded systems design background.
- Experience with wireless embedded systems and wireless communication protocols.
- Proven ability to analyze complex technical problems involving both hardware and software.
- Experience evaluating architectural trade-offs and translating customer requirements into product requirements.
- Proven ability to independently drive technical investigations.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to influence cross-functional stakeholders and work directly with customers.
Nice-to-have:
- Knowledge of core compute architecture (ARM cores, AXI/AHB interconnects).
- Familiarity with PPA (Power, Performance, Area) trade-offs and power/die-size estimation.
- Experience applying AI/ML within embedded or connected systems.
- Prior experience building products using Silicon Labs or similar embedded wireless platforms.
- Experience in gateways, wearables, robotics, industrial automation, always-on sensing, display systems, audio processing, or low-power system design.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required. Master's degree or PhD preferred.
