Job Title
Staff Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Senior hands-on ASIC engineer responsible for physical design or static timing analysis (STA) to support customer AI/ML, HPC, and infrastructure silicon programs. Work with cross-functional teams through design, tape-out, test, packaging, and production to ensure high-performance, manufacturable chips.
Onsite roles available in San Jose, CA; Irvine, CA; or Fort Collins, CO. Compensation details referenced in posting.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff). Years-of-experience guidance not specified.
Responsibilities
Deliver physical implementation and validation support across customer ASIC programs and collaborate with internal and customer engineering teams.
- Execute and validate physical design or STA flows for advanced-node tape-outs.
- Support design-for-manufacturability, timing closure, PPA tradeoffs, and power management for high-performance designs.
- Assist customer teams with EDA tools, design flows, and methodology best practices.
- Identify and mitigate risks to schedule, quality, and dependencies.
- Coordinate across RTL/front-end, test, packaging, and bring-up activities.
- Stay current with AI silicon trends, chiplet architectures, and implementation methodologies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; optional items listed as bonus.
-
Must-have: Hands-on experience in physical design or STA and multiple ASIC tape-outs; familiarity with EDA tools and validation flows.
-
Must-have: Strong understanding of PPA tradeoffs and low-power design techniques for compute-intensive systems.
-
Must-have: Scripting experience (TCL, shell, or similar) and strong communication/collaboration skills.
-
Must-have: Exposure to broader ASIC flows (logic simulation, test, packaging, bring-up).
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with AI/ML accelerators, HPC, large-scale compute SoCs, SERDES/high-speed interfaces, RTL/microarchitecture, or DFT (scan, MBIST, repair).
