Staff Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on physical implementation of high-performance chips across synthesis to tapeout. You will be part of the Physical Design team based in Bengaluru and collaborate with front-end, architecture, validation, and external partners to deliver silicon.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. The posting requests 4–8 years of relevant physical design experience; final level and offer will be aligned to demonstrated experience during interviews.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include ownership of physical design blocks through implementation and sign-off, and improving design quality and flows.
- Own blocks from synthesis to sign-off: floorplanning, placement & routing, clocking, timing closure, and signoff.
- Solve complex timing, power, and layout problems at advanced nodes.
- Define physical design requirements with front-end and architecture teams.
- Coordinate integration with foundry partners, IP vendors, and design service providers.
- Tune flows and run RTL experiments to improve area, power, and performance.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality silicon and meet tapeout schedules.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience below. Nice-to-have items are listed separately.
- Must-have: 4–8 years of hands-on physical design experience (placement, routing, timing closure, signoff) with multiple chip tapeouts.
- Must-have: Proven end-to-end physical design flow knowledge and ownership from synthesis through sign-off.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with physical verification and ECO flows and comfortable using tools such as Innovus, PrimeTime, and RedHawk.
- Must-have: Experience coordinating with foundries, IP vendors, and design service teams during integration.
- Must-have: Strong problem-solving skills for timing, power, and layout optimization at advanced nodes.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with high-performance CPU, SoC, or AI chip implementations and flow development for advanced nodes.
- Nice-to-have: Experience driving RTL experiments and flow tuning to improve area/power/performance trade-offs.
