Job Title

Staff Package Layout Engineer

Role Summary

Staff engineer on the System-in-Package team responsible for defining, designing, and verifying advanced package designs for Arm SoCs using 2.5D and 3D technologies. The role requires close collaboration with IP, PCB, SI/PI, systems teams, and external vendors to meet size, cost, and performance targets.

Experience Level

Senior (Staff) level. The posting indicates approximately 5–7+ years of relevant experience, particularly with Cadence APD and Allegro toolsets.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include package layout, design trade-offs, and cross-team coordination.

  • Create package layouts following DFM, DFA, signal integrity (SI) and power delivery network (PDN) best practices.
  • Perform design feasibility studies to evaluate package goals for size, cost, and system performance.
  • Optimize bump maps and ball patterns and propose layout trade-offs to technical leads.
  • Implement package routing, stack-up creation, reference planes, and power distribution using Cadence APD or SiP tool suites.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other team members.
  • Coordinate and communicate with external vendors and technology partners.
  • Define and test new methodologies to improve layout team efficiency.
  • Adapt to design changes and propose solutions for loosely defined problems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and relevant practical experience; a separate education section summarizes degree expectations.

  • Proven experience with 2.5D and 3D package systems and their SI/PI requirements.
  • 5–7+ years recent experience using Cadence APD and Allegro toolsets.
  • Experience optimizing package bump-maps, ball patterns, and power distribution networks.
  • Ability to facilitate standardization and design features that improve departmental efficiency.
  • Professional demeanor, openness to feedback, and continuous learning.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with EDA vendor collaboration, tool evaluations, and issue resolution.
  • Programming experience in Python, SKILL, or TCL.
  • Strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills.

Education Requirements

Electrical Engineering degree (level not specified) or equivalent practical work experience; the posting explicitly allows equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
