Staff OS Application Engineer
Role Summary
Customer-facing systems engineer focused on platform firmware, bring-up, and debug across silicon, firmware, and operating system layers. Acts as a technical lead supporting reference platforms and customer designs to accelerate platform readiness and reduce integration risk.
Experience Level
Level - Senior. The role expects senior-level experience; the posting specifies 8+ years in silicon, firmware, or server platform development and bring-up.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities involve technical ownership of customer platform issues, cross-team coordination, and hands-on system bring-up and debugging.
- Serve as primary technical interface to customers through product lifecycle and platform bring-up.
- Provide domain expertise on Linux kernel, drivers, and OS enablement (ACPI/Device Tree).
- Perform hands-on debugging across firmware, silicon, system-level issues, multi-socket and interconnect configurations.
- Collaborate with hardware teams to debug integration issues involving DDR, PCIe, and other high-speed interfaces.
- Lead triage, root-cause analysis, prioritization, and resolution of critical customer issues with internal engineering teams.
- Deliver technical enablement: workshops, training, and documentation for partners.
- Collect and feed customer findings back into internal engineering and product development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role, followed by desirable skills.
- Must-have: 8+ years experience in silicon, firmware, or server platform development and bring-up.
- Hands-on experience with system bring-up and debugging of SoC-based platforms, early boot diagnostics and boot log analysis.
- Expertise in OS enablement in firmware (ACPI and Device Tree practices) and Linux kernel/driver debugging.
- Strong understanding of server platform architecture: CPU, memory, interconnects, and I/O subsystems.
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces from a software perspective (PCIe, DDR).
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional, global engineering collaboration and resolve complex issues.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills and experience managing customer engagements.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with multi-socket systems and coherency fabrics (e.g., CMN or similar).
- Familiarity with BMC / OpenBMC and system management flows.
- Scripting for debug and automation (Python, Bash).
- Experience delivering technical training, workshops, or in a field/customer-facing engineering role (FAE/AE/System Integration).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (as stated in the posting).
