Staff Module Design Engineer
QorvoJob Title
Staff Module Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and develop RF/microwave single- and multi-chip modules and packaged products integrating GaN, GaAs, or silicon MMICs. Work as an individual contributor on module/package design, simulation, test, and product verification within a cross-functional product development team.
Experience Level
Senior level (Staff). Experience guidance: senior-level expertise in RF/mm-wave module design; specific degree-and-experience combinations are in Education Requirements below.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, simulation, verification and support through product lifecycle.
- Lead RF/mm-wave single- or multi-chip module (MCM) product development as an individual contributor.
- Integrate MMICs into air-cavity or over-mold modules and evaluate package tradeoffs.
- Perform advanced package design using 2.5D/3D electromagnetic simulators and circuit tools.
- Execute product checkout, DVT, optimization and lab-based verification; present results to internal/external stakeholders.
- Support product through concept, development, qualification and production stages.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and constraints. Education details appear in the Education Requirements section below.
- Experience integrating microwave/millimeter-wave MMIC dies (amplifiers, switches, phase shifters, attenuators) into air-cavity or over-mold FEMs.
- Expert user of 3D EM tools (e.g., HFSS, Analyst) and familiarity with circuit simulators (ADS, Microwave Office, Cadence/Spectre).
- Expertise analyzing FEM performance and package options (AC/OVM QFN, laminates, FCBGA, LGA, etc.).
- Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory and RF fundamentals (S-parameters, impedance matching, transmission lines, passive structures).
- Hands-on experience with microwave measurements, characterization and calibration methods.
- Knowledge of GaN, GaAs and/or silicon semiconductor technologies and RF/power packaging materials and assembly processes.
- Strong written and oral communication skills for concise technical summaries.
- Requires US Person status (US citizen, permanent resident, asylee or refugee); position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Nice-to-have:
- RF signal chain and system analysis knowledge.
- Antenna design experience and technical publications are a plus.
Education Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years relevant experience; MS in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years; or PhD in Electrical Engineering (RF/Microwave focus) with 3+ years. Positions reference RF/microwave focus and relevant industry experience; no alternative degree fields or certifications specified.
