Staff MMIC Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead the design and development of GaN/GaAs MMIC-based RF/microwave products. Act as the technical lead on product development teams and mentor other engineers.

Work with cross-functional teams (program management, package and test engineering, manufacturing, applications, quality and reliability) to deliver designs from concept through production and qualification.

Experience Level

Senior (professional). Typical experience guidance: BS +8 years, MS +5 years, PhD +3 years.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include technical leadership, MMIC design and verification, lab testing, and supporting product lifecycle stages.

• Serve as technical lead for MMIC-based product development.
• Design MMICs using linear and nonlinear device models and 2.5D/3D electromagnetic simulators.
• Integrate MMIC(s) into single- or multichip modules and collaborate on packaging and module-level design.
• Manage product checkout, optimization, and design verification testing (DVT) in the microwave lab.
• Perform DVT analysis and present results to internal and/or external customers.
• Support products through concept/feasibility, development, qualification, and production phases.
• Mentor other engineers in design concepts and best practices.
• Publish technical work and submit invention disclosures when applicable.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tool proficiency, and eligibility criteria.

• Experience designing microwave/millimeter-wave MMIC amplifiers, switches, phase shifters, attenuators, TDUs, hybrid multichip modules, or FEMs.
• Experience with III-V compound semiconductor technologies, specifically GaN and GaAs.
• Expert-level use of nonlinear MMIC simulators (ADS or Microwave Office) and proficiency with one or more EM tools (SONNET, Axiem, Momentum, HFSS).
• Strong understanding of microwave measurements and calibration methods: S-parameters, power, efficiency, source/load pull, noise figure, linearity, and intermodulation distortion.
• Strong written and oral communication skills to concisely summarize technical concepts.
• Ability to lead technical work across cross-functional teams and manage product DVT.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice-to-have:

• Design of high-performance millimeter-wave GaAs or GaN MMIC power amplifiers with simultaneous power, bandwidth, efficiency, and linearity requirements.
• Experience with SiGe and/or CMOS-based RFIC/MMIC, analog, or mixed-signal design.
• Published author in technical journals or conferences.

Education Requirements

BS in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience; MS in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years; PhD in Electrical Engineering (RF/Microwave focus) with 3+ years.
