Job Title
Staff MMIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and develop GaN and GaAs-based RF/MMIC products and integrate MMICs into modules as part of a cross-functional product development team. The role leads technical product development from concept through qualification and production and supports design verification and lab testing.
Experience Level
Senior-level (professional). See Education Requirements for degree-specific years-of-experience guidance.
Responsibilities
Technical leadership and hands-on MMIC design, verification, and product support:
- Serve as technical lead for MMIC-based product development efforts.
- Design MMIC circuits (amplifiers, switches, phase shifters, attenuators, TDUs, FEMs) using linear and nonlinear models.
- Use 2.5D/3D EM simulators and nonlinear circuit simulators to iterate designs.
- Integrate MMIC(s) into single- or multi-chip modules and collaborate with packaging/mechanical teams.
- Manage product checkout, optimization, and design verification testing in the Microwave Lab; analyze and present DVT results.
- Support products through concept/feasibility, development, qualification, and production stages.
- Document results, prepare technical reports/presentations, and submit invention disclosures where applicable.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and constraints; separate list for nice-to-have items.
- Proven experience designing RFIC/MMIC components such as amplifiers, switches, phase shifters, attenuators, TDUs, hybrid multichip modules, or FEMs.
- Experience with advanced III-V semiconductor technologies, specifically GaN and GaAs.
- Practical use of nonlinear simulators (ADS or Microwave Office) and one or more EM tools (SONNET, Axiem, Momentum, HFSS).
- Hands-on understanding of microwave measurements and calibration: S-parameters, power, efficiency, source/load pull, noise figure, linearity, and IMD.
- Strong written and oral communication skills to summarize technical concepts concisely.
- Work on U.S. Government contracts requires applicants to be U.S. Persons (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee).
- Position is not eligible for visa sponsorship by the company.
Nice-to-have:
- Design experience with high-performance millimeter-wave GaAs or GaN MMIC power amplifiers balancing power, bandwidth, efficiency, and linearity.
- Experience with SiGe and/or CMOS RFIC, analog, or mixed-signal design.
- Record of published technical work (journals, conferences) or prior patent disclosures.
Education Requirements
Degree options and corresponding years of relevant experience: BS in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years; MS in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years; PhD in Electrical Engineering (RF/Microwave focus) with 2+ years. Fields: Electrical Engineering with RF/Microwave emphasis. (No substitute or equivalent-experience language was specified.)
