Job Title

Staff HSIO/DDR Bench Test Engineer

Role Summary

Post-silicon engineering role responsible for developing and executing test methodologies and characterization for high-speed SERDES interfaces and other mixed-signal blocks on SOCs. Work includes first-silicon bring-up, electrical compliance validation, parametric data analysis, and hardware debug.

The engineer will collaborate with IC design, systems engineering, customer engineering, and hardware applications teams to resolve issues, support product qualification, and improve test/characterization processes.

Experience Level

Senior (staff) level. Preferred 7+ years of relevant hardware/test engineering experience; posting lists varying minimums tied to degree level (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include lab and bench test work, silicon bring-up, characterization, and cross-team debugging.

  • Define and execute characterization and test plans for high-speed interfaces (PCIe, USB3, UFS, DP, MIPI DSI/CSI, PLLs, proprietary interfaces).
  • Perform first-silicon bring-up, root-cause debug, and electrical compliance validation.
  • Measure and analyze parametric performance across operating conditions and configurations; generate technical reports.
  • Investigate and resolve power-integrity (PI) and signal-integrity (SI) issues related to package and board design.
  • Develop and maintain test automation and scripts to support bench and manufacturing validation.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment for high-speed characterization (oscilloscopes, TDR/VNA, J-BERT, bit error-rate testers, etc.).
  • Work with cross-functional teams and customers on RMA/debug activities and design qualification.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and behaviors.

  • Several years of hardware engineering or bench test experience in ASIC/SOC characterization and bring-up.
  • Practical knowledge of high-speed test concepts: eye diagrams, differential signaling, jitter analysis, and signal integrity.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging skills, and ability to work independently under time constraints.
  • Fluent English (verbal and written) and strong documentation skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with IC design, systems, and customer-facing teams.
  • Good organization and communication skills to produce clear technical reports and test artifacts.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (high-speed oscilloscopes, TDR/VNA, J-BERT, BERTs).
  • Experience with SERDES characterization/validation and TX/RX design blocks.
  • Familiarity with board design practices (schematic/layout reviews) and PI/SI mitigation.
  • Test automation experience in Python or C#.
  • System-level knowledge and ASIC device-level characterization experience.

Education Requirements

Posting specifies degree-linked minimums: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years' relevant experience; or Master's degree in those fields with 3+ years; or PhD in those fields with 2+ years. The posting also includes an alternative minimum stating 9+ years of related experience. Preferred: Master's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
