Job Title

Staff High-Speed Analog IC Design R&D Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop high-speed analog integrated circuits for next-generation optical networking products within Nokia's Optical Networks division. The role focuses on circuits operating above 100 Gbaud and spans design, layout coordination, test characterization, and cross-functional product integration.

Experience Level

Senior / Staff-level role. Candidates typically have multiple years of relevant IC design experience; the posting provides year guidance (see Education Requirements) but expects senior technical ownership and leadership in IC development.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Architect and design high-speed analog IC blocks targeting >100 Gbaud operation.
  • Lead schematic design, transistor-level optimization, and coordinate physical layout and DRC/LVS closure.
  • Plan and execute silicon bring-up, characterization, and Design Verification Test (DVT) activities.
  • Collaborate with verification, CAD, product, and test engineering teams to define test plans and debug issues.
  • Support RF wafer probing, performance evaluation, and handover to production/test teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Hands-on experience with high-speed analog IC design using SiGe BiCMOS or CMOS processes.
  • Practical knowledge of transmission lines and high-frequency passive structures and their impact on circuit behavior.
  • Solid understanding of device physics as it affects analog/RF performance and design trade-offs.
  • Experience with RF wafer probing and high-speed IC evaluation methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Verilog-A and CAD scripting (SKILL, Python, shell scripting) for modeling and automation.
  • Strong problem-solving, verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree (electrical engineering, electronics, physics, or related technical field) with ~5 years of relevant experience; Master's degree preferred (typically ~3 years experience); PhD candidates are also considered. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
