Job Title

Staff FPGA/Firmware Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop FPGA logic, firmware, and board-level subsystems to support chip test infrastructure within Central Engineering. The role involves FPGA architecture, hardware board development, lab testing, prototype bring-up, and collaboration with firmware and software teams.

Work closely with PCB and system engineers to validate designs and support chip bring-up for data center and related products.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires 5+ years of relevant experience in data communication systems or a similar field.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include:

  • Architect and develop FPGA logic and integrate common code blocks.
  • Simulate FPGA designs and achieve timing closure.
  • Validate FPGA designs and perform board- and FPGA-level debugging.
  • Collaborate with firmware and software teams to implement system-level diagnostics.
  • Bring up and test prototypes; develop and execute test plans.
  • Perform and lead laboratory debug of hardware and FPGA issues.
  • Contribute to formal design processes, including requirements management and documentation.

Requirements

Required technical skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in FPGA architecture, design, modelling, simulation, and verification.
  • Expertise in Verilog; SystemVerilog and VHDL are pluses.
  • Experience with FPGA toolflows such as Vivado and with simulation/verification tools.
  • Experience with serial buses (I2C, I3C, SPI, MDIO, PMBUS) and parallel interfaces (APB, AXI).
  • Strong knowledge of high-speed design methodologies and synchronous digital design techniques.
  • Experience with logic-level interfaces of service processors.
  • Proficiency with CAD/layout tools such as Cadence, Concept, Allegro and constraint-driven design methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of circuit design and layout techniques (analog, digital, programmable logic, microcontrollers).
  • Scripting skills (shell, TCL, Python) and familiarity with Windows environments.
  • Experience working on teams of FPGA designers; strong communication and leadership skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering (CE) or Electrical Engineering (EE) is required; Master's degree (MS) in Electrical Engineering preferred. No certifications or explicit equivalent-experience language specified.
