Staff FPGA Engineer - Simulink (Remote)

Role Summary

Design, implement, and verify FPGA-based firmware for communications and networking products. Work on translating algorithms from MATLAB/Simulink into production FPGA implementations and support full lifecycle activities from architecture through test and sustainment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including RF, DSP, firmware, software, and test.

Experience Level

Senior level - requires 10+ years of relevant experience designing and verifying FPGA systems.

Responsibilities

Deliver FPGA firmware and associated interfaces, establish firmware development workflows, and support system integration and test.

• Translate algorithms (MATLAB/Simulink) into optimized FPGA implementations and iterate on architecture and design.
• Implement, simulate, and verify HDL (VHDL/Verilog) designs for low-cost FPGAs, SoCs, and SoMs.
• Define and develop microprocessor ICDs between FPGA and message/data handling schemes.
• Establish and optimize firmware development workflows across architecture, design, simulation, verification, and system testing.
• Work with cross-functional teams (RF, DSP, firmware, software, test) to integrate and validate embedded processing solutions.
• Support qualification, integration, troubleshooting, and sustainment of hardware and firmware in target systems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and security eligibility required for this role.

• 10+ years designing, implementing, and verifying FPGA-based systems using VHDL or Verilog.
• Experience using code generators to convert MATLAB/Simulink algorithms into FPGA implementations.
• Proficient in C and C++ for embedded development.
• Experience with RTOS and embedded software architectures.
• Familiarity with common MCU, CPU, and FPGA devices and peripherals.
• Familiarity with standard interfaces such as Ethernet, I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB.
• Proficiency with EE test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators) and testing PCBAs.
• Familiarity with flight software architectures and embedded systems development processes.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with wireless communications systems and computer networking.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding tools.
• Experience implementing enhanced security measures and high-reliability aerospace designs.
• Familiarity with aircraft systems, redundant systems, and standards such as DO-254, DO-178C, DO-160, DO-311A, MIL-STD-810/704/461.
• Experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex communications board designs.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience; equivalent experience is acceptable.
