Work includes implementing digital hardware architecture and algorithms, collaborating with systems engineering, and contributing to model-based engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile development practices for national defense systems.

Experience Level

Senior-level engineer. This role expects an experienced candidate with significant hands-on FPGA/digital design experience (see Education Requirements for degree-specific experience guidance).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop, modify and evaluate digital electronic components and integrated circuits for hardware systems.
  • Determine design approaches and parameters and select components based on specifications and reliability.
  • Analyze equipment, conduct experimental tests, and evaluate results to validate designs.
  • Research and develop complex high-speed digital designs and FPGA hardware architecture.
  • Support implementation of algorithms on FPGA and collaborate with systems engineering to meet system-level requirements.
  • Review vendor capabilities and design analyses to inform product development.
  • Perform design reviews and contribute to verification and validation activities.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical skills:

  • Must have: Hands-on FPGA design experience with VHDL and/or Verilog within the past 6 years.
  • Must have: Experience with AMD/Xilinx and/or Intel/Altera SoC FPGAs.
  • Must have: Experience with EDA tools such as Vivado, Quartus, and QuestaSim/Modelsim.
  • Must have: Ability to obtain an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
  • Preferred: Proficient in DSP algorithms and FPGA implementation using MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Preferred: Expertise in FPGA physical constraints and timing closure; developing low-level FPGA requirements and verification procedures.
  • Preferred: Experience with board/system debug using oscilloscopes, logic/spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, etc.
  • Preferred: Experience generating complex testbenches in ModelSim/QuestaSim and familiarity with VxWorks RTOS.
  • Preferred: Experience with high-speed interfaces such as AXI, DMA, PCIe, HSSI, DDR3, Ethernet; RF design background is a plus.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other STEM discipline with 12 years of digital design and verification engineering experience, or a Master's degree with 10 years of such experience.
