Job Title
Staff Fab Process Engineer (Semiconductor)
Role Summary
Technical lead responsible for ownership and improvement of CMP and diffusion/thermal process modules in a high-volume semiconductor wafer fabrication facility. The role focuses on process stability, yield improvement, defect reduction, cost optimization, and technology scaling while coordinating across manufacturing, equipment, yield, and integration teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level — typically 8–12+ years of process engineering experience in semiconductor wafer fabrication.
Responsibilities
Accountable for module-level process performance, problem resolution, and continuous improvement across CMP and diffusion/thermal areas.
- Own CMP and diffusion/thermal process modules, including recipes, specifications, control plans, and process capability (Cp/Cpk).
- Lead root-cause analysis and containment for excursions, parametric shifts, and yield detractors using structured problem-solving.
- Optimize CMP processes (oxide, silicon, polysilicon), slurry and pad strategies, defectivity control, and consumables lifecycle.
- Optimize diffusion and thermal flows (oxidation, furnace/RTP anneals, dopant activation) to control sheet resistance, uniformity, and junction depth.
- Interface with equipment and materials suppliers for tool matching, material optimization, and cost reduction.
- Partner with manufacturing, equipment engineering, yield, and device integration to respond to production issues and manage process changes, qualifications, and FMEA-based risk assessments.
- Apply statistical methods (SPC, DOE, regression, multivariate) and analyze metrology, defect inspection, parametric, and electrical data to guide process control strategies.
- Mentor mid- and senior-level engineers and contribute to fab-wide best practices and documentation standards.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and constraints; preferred items listed separately.
- 8–12+ years of process engineering experience in a semiconductor wafer fabrication environment.
- Hands-on expertise in CMP and diffusion/thermal processing in high-volume manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of defect mechanisms, equipment-to-process interactions, and yield learning.
- Proficiency with statistical process control and data-driven problem solving.
- Proven record of delivering sustained yield, cost, reliability, or cycle-time improvements.
- Ability to lead complex, multi-disciplinary technical efforts and work independently.
- This is an ITAR role — candidate must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. Person.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with analog, mixed-signal, or specialty semiconductor technologies.
- Direct experience interfacing with equipment and materials suppliers.
- Experience supporting technology transfers, capacity ramps, or major process changes.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline (as stated in the posting).
